I guess I should be honored

So apparently my blog is at least visible enough that somebody decides to post spam to the comments for my “People are Strange” entry. I suppose I should be happy that I’m so loved… alternatively somewhat annoyed that someone’s using my comments engine to attempt to sell people something.

No worries… I have this blog set up for comments to be approved before they can be seen for EXACTLY this reason. I purged them out this morning. At least I know the comments engine works now…

Anyway, it’s been a hectic week for me last week and into this week. With the MS05-039 announcement last week I have found myself elbow-deep in patch planning and distribution mechanisms. Now, since I was the lead engineer in the implementation of just such a system earlier this year this is our first “live ammo” test of the system… so of course I’m all of a sudden Mr. Popular. Well, it could be worse I suppose. That means I’ve not had much time for anything else, add to that the fact that an exploit has been released for the vector patched by MS05-039.

Now, the news is not all doom and gloom; thankfully I was a core part of the group that decided at work that going forward as of about 18 months ago, all new servers where possible would run Windows 2003. Now, according to the article linked above (and several other articles I’ve read) the exploit cannot infect Windows 2003 servers. Windows XP SP2 machines are also apparently immune to this threat. Now, that doesn’t mean don’t patch… it just means that for a good number of our systems the urgency is a little lower than it would be otherwise.

Other than that, not much in the way of news to be honest. I’ve still got loads of stuff going on in my personal life, a lot of which I can’t really talk about for personal reasons. Still, it’s all good, right?

Woo… it’s Monday. Joy. I think I need coffee… toodle pip until later…
