While the 1986 versions were released internationally, in 1987 a completely remodeled My Child doll hit international (non-US) shelves in mass! These '87 issued My Child dolls came out with a new tan (noticably peach skin compared to the earlier pale/white skin), modified hair styles (most noticeably being the REALLY long hair which cna touch their ankles), their make-up was darker & thicker, and they lost their little green heart on their bottoms. In 1988, international dolls once again were remodeled. This time not so drastically. Mattel added the Ribbons 'n Bows line. They were almost the same as the '87 line but they also received 10 new outfits (& 2 variant outfits) and their bangs are curly. Also a new strawberry blonde hair color was introduced to replace the red haired My Child dolls. (At least this is popular belief) In the US, we did not get these remodeled dolls (it is guessed that they were not as popular in the US, as CPK was the craze). Although starting in '87, US My Child dolls also lost their green heart on the toosh. If you have one of these girls for sale or if you have photos of international dolls that I don't have photos of (or maybe better photos lol) that I could use on my site, please email me. I am happy to provide links to your site.
These were the 'new' 12 outfits that some of the '88 International Dolls wore. From what I understand these were the only styles produced although there are catalogue pictures that have shown variations of these outfits, those are beleived to never have made it to production. If you have any pictures of outfits not posted here and are willing to allow me to use them as example, please email me.
Canadian My Child Dolls came out in 1986 until 1988. First they were the Taiwan molds, and then they changed to the China molding. The way to tell the difference between a Canadian MC doll and any other MC doll is that canadian dolls were given two tags on their body instead of other MCs one tag. One tage which says "Mattel Inc. 1985, Mattel Canada Inc." and the other tag is quite large and written in french. They also don't have the green "My Child" logo on their behind. You can find Canadian My Child Dolls with both pale and peach skin. If you have pictures of them that I may use as an example please email me.
That's about it for now....
