My Loving Baby There was another type of MY CHILD doll put out by Mattel in 1987/88. They were called "My Loving Baby." This other type of MY CHILD doll had the exact same body as the regular My Child but the faces were different. Instead of the soft cloth faces, these my child dolls had hard vinyl faces. This doll has the same adorable face (with big eyes and button nose) as the "soft skin" ones only there's no soft skin. The body, as I said earlier is the same but these dolls also have a sewn-on underslip to cover their body. The only outfit they were sold in was a little laced shirt and separate underpants (see below). The outfit came in either blue or pink. There is question if this was supposed to mean they were a girl or boy since they all look like girls.
A neat feature with these dolls is that on their back is a "spot" that when you push it, her head will bow forward and to the side. This is so that when you put her on your shoulder and press her back, she will lay her head on your shoulder as if to cuddle. An example is below.
Their hair came in the same style. They had short hair in curls with two little bows in each side of her head. Below is a picture of their hair part.
They aren't a big favorite of collectors, so you can buy them fairly cheap for around $5, more or less. Below are pictures of the hair colors you could get them in :)
