Dolls

My Child dolls debut in 1986 (while they are ©1985) even though my own memory fails me as I could swear I got my first for x-mas in '85. But I was only 5! lol Usually when you search to buy this doll, looking for 1985 is preferable as people normally sell these dolls using their copyright date. Each doll came with a white diaper (made by Pampers), comb, brush, and a brag booklet. Included also was a mail-away card that you could mail in to get a "gold" locket that had "My Child" engraved on the front & inside would hold a picture of "your" doll (*Note: International lockets did not open). There was a LARGE variety of dolls made, in many different clothes and hair styles, but all in all they were adorable! You could get a brunette, redhead, strawberry blonde('88 internationally only), ash-blonde, or a blonde doll with either brown, blue (also called violet), aqua (also called turqouise) or green eyes. Also the doll could be a boy or a girl. Their hairstyles varied from curly pigtails, to straight ponytails to loose, wavy short hair to super curly hair. And to think, even the clothing had this much variety!!!
This page concerns the first line of My Child Dolls which are more commonly found in the USA. You can find them in other countries but the USA got the most. These little ladies first appeared in stores in 1986 and, I believe, were sold throughout the My Child timeline. In 1988, they changed ever so slighty, losing their My Child Heart on their behind and getting darker makeup. There were many differnet types of combinations you could choose from. Below are the hair colors and eye colors available to these dolls.

There are FOUR basic colors but they can vary in shading due to production - how a specific eye color batch was mixed. Sometimes blues will look violet or aquas can look turqouise, sometimes even a kind of jade green. This is fairly common but can be hard to notice unless you have several dolls of the same eye color. Its even harder to detect in photos due to the cameras/flash/etc.. Also you might see shade differences due to sun damage (typically this makes the color duller). Extreme sun damage has been known to turn the eyes yellow.
